Happy garlic Packaging

2017 / 3 weeks

The 'happy garlic' packaging was created as a sustainable alternative to the plastic net packaging which is commonly used to package garlic. This type of packaging is cost efficient but is not environmentally sustainable as it is very difficult to recycle. One of the key insights gathered during research was that garlic should be protected from light as much as possible to prolong freshness - net bags do not provide adequate protection for this.

I heavily explore concepts on paper and as physical prototypes using cardboard and corrugated fibre board. Using the same medium with which the final product would be manufactured meant it was possible to gain a good indication of suitability, rigidity and durability of form. Above and below are some examples of the sketch work and rapid prototyping.
